What is Crestor?
One type of medication that can be useful is HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, commonly known as statins. They reduce cholesterol levels by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme that that produces cholesterol. Crestor is a statin that is lowers total blood cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels, reducing the risk of artery clogs and the dangers associated with that.
How do I take Crestor?
Crestor is taken as a pill in various doses of up to 40 mgs. Generally, the dosing starts at 5 mgs a day and increasing as needed. The typical maximum dose is 20 mgs, but it can be increased to 40 mgs if the lower doses are inadequate. Wait at least two hours after taking Crestor before taking antacids.
Before taking Crestor, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to any medication
- You are taking any other medication, especially cyclosporine, nicotinic acid, or gemfibrizol
- You are pregnant or may become pregnant while taking Crestor
- You have a history of muscle pain or weakness
- You drink more than 2 glasses of alcohol daily
- You have liver or kidney problems
- You have thyroid problems
- You are Asian or of Asian decent
What are the possible side effects of taking Crestor?
The most common side effects of Crestor are headaches, muscle aches and pain, abdominal pain, weakness, and nausea. Contact your doctor if these symptoms persist or worsen. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any serious side effects such as loss of appetite, dark urination, upper stomach pain, feelings of weakness, or jaundice.
What if I forget to take a dose of Crestor?
If you forget to take a dose of Crestor, take the missed dose as soon remembered. If it is close to your next scheduled dose, skipped the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses within a 12 hour period.
How do I store Crestor?
Store Crestor at room temperature away from excess moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Throw away expired or unused medication.
What happens if I overdose on Crestor?
If you suspect an overdose of Crestor, contact emergency medical services or poison control immediately.

Take Crestor exactly as prescribed by a medical professional. Discuss health changes with your doctor while on Crestor. Your blood pressure should be regularly monitored. Do not give this medication to anyone else. Keep a list of your medications on you at all times in case of a medical emergency.
