Pataday Information:

What is Pataday?

Pataday, also known as opthlamic colopatadine, is an ophthalmic eye solution used that is used to temporarily prevent itching of the eye caused by allergic conjunctivitis. Pataday works by acting on cells called mast cells, by prevent them from releasing substances that cause allergic reaction.

How do I take Pataday?

Use a free Pataday coupon or a copay card to reduce the cost of this medication in your local pharmacy. Pataday is meant for the eye only. Before use, wash your hands thoroughly. Tilt your head back, hold down lower lid away from eye and squeeze a drop of the medicine into this space. Let go of the eyelid and close your eye. Do not blink. Keep the eye closed for 1 or 2 minutes to allow the medicine to be absorbed. Repeat with other eye unless otherwise directed. Refrain from allowing the applicator tip to touch any surface (including the eye). Also, keep the container tightly closed. Repeat daily as prescribed by your doctor.

Before taking Pataday, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to olopatadine, benzalkonium chloride, or any other medications.
  • You are taking any additional prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, or herbal products.
  • You are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding.

Side effects of Pataday that require contacting your doctor immediately include: redness, swelling, burning, stinging, drainage, crusting, or other irritation.

Other less more common side effects that should still be mentioned to your doctor include: mild burning, stinging, irritation, itching, redness, dryness, blurred vision, puffy eyelids, stuffy or runny nose, cough, sore throat, weakness, back pain, headache, unusual taste in your mouth, or the feeling that something is in your eye.

What if I forget to take a dose of Pataday?

If you miss administering a dose of Pataday, do so as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.

How do I store Pataday?

Pataday should be kept in its original container, tightly closed at room temperature. Keep away from heat, moisture, freezing, and direct light. Keep out of the reach of children and discard if outdated or no longer needed.
