What is Ragwitek?
Prescription Ragwitek can help treat ragweed pollen allergies through the season. This medication should be taken 12 weeks before ragweed pollen season. It is important to note that this medication does not provide immediate allergy relief, but rather prevents symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, headaches, irritated eyes, and itchy throat when taken before allergy season begins. The active ingredient in Ragwitek, short ragweed pollen allergen extract, works by gradually building up the body’s tolerance to ragweed to reduce sensitivity.
How do I take Ragwitek?
Take a Ragwitek tablet from the blister package with dry hands and place it directly under the tongue. Allow the tablet to dissolve completely, and avoid swallowing for at least 1 minute. Your doctor may administer the Ragwitek tablet in the office to watch for signs of an allergic reaction within the first 30 minutes.
Before taking Ragwitek, tell your doctor if
- You have asthma
- You have lung disease
- You have heart disease or high blood pressure
- You are receiving allergy shots or other immunotherapies under the tongue
What are the possible side effects of taking Ragwitek?
Ragwitek may cause severe allergic reactions that can be life threating, so it is important to contact medical help right away if you experience: trouble breathing, throat tightness or swelling, trouble swallowing or speaking, dizziness or fainting, rapid heart or weak heartbeat, severe stomach cramps, vomiting, or diarrhea, and severe flushing or itching of the skin.
What if I forget to take a dose of Ragwitek?
If you forget to take a dose of Ragwitek, skip it and take it during your next scheduled dose. It is important not to take more Ragwitek than is prescribed by your doctor to avoid serious allergic reactions.
How do I store Ragwitek?
Store Ragwitek tablets in a dry place with a temperature between 59 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Do not expose Ragwitek tablets to extreme cold, heat or excess moisture.
What happens if I overdose on Ragwitek?
An overdose of Ragwitek may cause difficulty breathing and swelling. If you overdose on Ragwitek, call local emergency services at 911 or Poison Control at 1(800) 222-1222.
Warnings
Do not take Ragwitek if you have asthma or conditions like COPD. It is important not to take Ragwitek if you are susceptible to allergic reactions or are unresponsive to epinephrine or bronchodilators.
Brand Names
Ragwitek is a brand name medication for treating pollen allergies. There is currently not a generic version of Ragwitek at the moment.
