Technivie Information:
Technivie is a combination of two direct-acting hepatitis C virus antiviral agents, ombitasvir and paritaprevir, with distinct mechanisms of action. Ritonavir, however, is not active against HCV. Ritonavir helps control the body's response to paritaprevir to maximize drug efficacy and minimize side effects. The overall effect of Technivie is the treatment of hepatitis C.
Take Technivie tablets once a day for 12 weeks following the directions on the medicine's label. Each prescription provides enough medication for four weeks or 28 days of administration. Take two tablets at the same time each morning with a meal. Have your blood tested frequently while using this medication to ensure that your liver is functioning properly. Do not stop taking this medication without a doctor's orders, even if you begin to feel better.
Before taking Technivie, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to ombitasvir, paritaprevir, or ritonavir
- You have allergies to other medicines or foods
- You have moderate to severe liver disease
- You have ever had a severe skin rash after taking ritonavir (Norvir)
- You have liver problems or have received a liver transplant
- You have HIV or AIDS
Antiviral medications such as Technivie may come with common side effects including nausea, insomnia, tiredness, or weakness. Alert a medical professional if you experience liver problems, with symptoms such as upper stomach pain or swelling, confusion, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, or jaundice.
Take the dose you missed along with food as soon as you remember. If you missed more than 12 hours, skip the dose you forgot and take your next dose at its normal time with a meal.
Store this medication at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Be sure not to remove the tablets from a daily dose package until you are ready to administer your dose of medicine.
After an overdose, you may begin to experience severe side effects. Seek emergency medical attention or call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.
You will need to stop using medicines that contain ethinyl estradiol before beginning a Technivie regimen. Medicines that contain ethinyl estradiol include birth control pills and some hormone replacement medicines. Be absolutely sure you are not pregnant before taking this medicine, as this medicine in combination with ribavririn can cause birth defects or death to an unborn baby.
