CeraVe Information:
What is CeraVe?
CeraVe is the brand name for a line of topical creams and lotions applied to help repair and improve damaged skin. While there is not actually a CeraVe drug, this product was developed using proprietary formula that combines fatty esters, ceramides (lipids), and cholesterol. The National Eczema Association has approved its use as part of a skin care regimen for dry skin and forms of eczema, acne, atopic dermatitis, rosacea, and psoriasis.
How do I take CeraVe?
CeraVe is applied to the skin and affected areas on an as needed basis. To use the cream or lotion, cleanse the affected area, then dispense the desired amount onto the skin and gently rub it in. Alternatively, place the CeraVe cream or lotion onto the hand or fingertips the rub it on the affected area. If using the moisturizing cleanser, follow the instructions on the packaging for best results.
Before taking CeraVe, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients in CeraVe
- You have any skin conditions such as psoriasis, rosacea, acne, eczema, or atopic dermatitis
- You are pregnant or are nursing a child
- You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements
- You have any deep wounds, or skin irritations covering a large area
- You have, or have had, skin cancer
What are the possible side effects of taking CeraVe?
Some mild CeraVe drug side effects, such as burning, itching, or stinging at the application site. If these symptoms persist or worsen, contact your doctor. Severe side effects that have been reported include severe allergic reactions including hive, rash, persistent itching, swelling of the lips, mouth, tongue, throat, and face, and difficulty breathing or swallowing. Contact a doctor immediately if any of these, or other, symptoms appear.
What if I forget to take a dose of CeraVe?
Because CeraVe is applied on as needed basis, and does not have a dosing schedule, it is not possible to miss an application. However, if a significant amount of time has elapsed since using this product and skin problems are persistent, apply it at your earliest convenience.
How do I store CeraVe?
Keep CeraVe tightly stored in its original container, out of the reach of children, and away from the extremes of temperature and humidity. Do not allow the product to freeze. Dispose of any unused or outdated quantities according to the instructions of your pharmacist.
What happens if I overdose on CeraVe?
If CeraVe is ingested, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911.
Warnings
Contact your doctor if your condition worsens or does improve after a few days. Do not allow the product to come in contact with the eyes or mucus membranes. Do not ingest CeraVe. Do not apply over large areas, or to deep or puncture wounds. Do not apply near open flames or while smoking.
