Drysol Information:
What is Drysol?
Drysol contains aluminum chloride hexahydrate, an antiperspirant agent that acts on the cells that produce sweat. It may be prescribed to people with hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), and it is available as a liquid, a solution with an applicator, and in a ‘Dab-o-Matic’ form.
How do I apply Drysol?
Follow the instructions that come with your prescription, and ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about how to use the Drysol medicine. Your doctor may instruct you to use this medication before bed several nights a week in order to control your sweating. Use a cotton swab or the applicator that comes with your medication to apply a thin layer of Drysol to the affected areas. If you are applying Drysol to your armpits, make sure to cover the area with a shirt afterwards so that you don’t accidentally rub the medicine off on your bed sheets or another surface.
Before taking Drysol, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to aluminum chloride hexahydrate
- You have any other allergies
- You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription medications or supplements, especially Antabuse (disulfiram)
- You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant
What are the possible side effects of taking Drysol?
The Drysol drug may cause mild skin irritation, including an itching, burning, or tingling sensation at the application site. This usually isn’t a cause for concern, but let your doctor know if your skin irritation lasts a long time or becomes bothersome. Call your doctor immediately if you have severe swelling, redness, or burning at the application site. Get emergency medical attention if you have any signs of a severe allergic reaction, including facial swelling, hives, and difficulty breathing.
What if I forget to take a dose of Drysol?
Because Drysol is usually used in the evening before bed, you should skip the forgotten dose and apply it the next night. Do not apply more of the Drysol solution than you normally would in an effort to catch up.
How do I store Drysol?
Drysol contains alcohol, so keep it away from high heat and open flames. Make sure the medication bottle is tightly sealed when you’re not using it, since the medicine will evaporate if exposed to air. Store your Drysol medicine at room temperature, out of reach of pets and children.
What happens if I overdose on Drysol?
It is unlikely that you will overdose on Drysol when applying it to your skin. However, this medication may be harmful if swallowed. If you or someone in your home has ingested some of this medicine, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 right away.
Warnings
Keep Drysol away from your eyes, nose, and mouth, and rinse with water immediately if you do get the medicine in or near any of these areas. Do not apply Drysol to broken, irritated, or recently-shaved skin, as the alcohol in the medicine may irritate your skin further. Do not use any other antiperspirants or deodorants while you are using Drysol.
