Dyrenium Information:
What is Dyrenium?
Dyrenium is a potassium-sparing diuretic (water pill). When taken as directed, it helps you produce more urine in order to remove excess water from your body. It may be prescribed to treat fluid retention caused by various conditions, including liver cirrhosis, congestive heart failure, and nephrotic syndrome (a kidney problem). It may also be used to treat edema (fluid retention-related swelling) caused by low potassium levels or too much of the hormone aldosterone.
How do I take Dyrenium?
Take Dyrenium exactly as directed by your doctor, usually once or twice a day with food and plenty of water. Try to avoid taking this medication within 4 hours of going to bed, as this may increase your likelihood of needing to urinate during the night. Keep all appointments with your doctor; he or she may need to perform regular blood tests to make sure your medication is effective.
Before taking Dyrenium, tell your doctor if:
- You have any food or drug allergies
- You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription drugs or supplements, especially another potassium-sparing diuretic
- You have kidney or liver disease
- You have had kidney stones
- You have heart disease
- You are unable to urinate
- You have gout
- You have high potassium levels or low sodium blood levels
- You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant
What are the possible side effects of taking Dyrenium?
When taking Dyrenium, you may experience mild nausea, upset stomach, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, or dry mouth. If any of these side effects gets worse or lasts a long time, tell your doctor. If you have any rare but serious side effects, stop taking Dyrenium and call your doctor immediately. Serious side effects may include an irregular heart rate, severe lightheadedness, muscle pain or weakness, shallow breathing, infrequent or no urination, vomiting, confusion, fainting, or seizures. These are not all the possible side effects, and you should always consult a healthcare provider if you have any adverse effects that concern you.
What if I forget to take a dose of Dyrenium?
Take the missed dose once you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. In this case, skip the missed dose and proceed with your normal schedule. Don’t double your next dose in an effort to catch up.
How do I store Dyrenium?
Store Dyrenium in a cool, dry space with the lid tightly sealed. Do not store your medication in the bathroom or anywhere that children or pets could reach it.
What happens if I overdose on Dyrenium?
Overdose symptoms may include an irregular heart rate, muscle weakness, and severe dizziness. If you believe that you or someone in your household has overdosed on Dyrenium, get emergency medical attention right away.
Warnings
Avoid alcohol, foods that are high in sodium, and products containing potassium while taking Dyrenium. Because this medication causes you to urinate more, you may become dehydrated more easily. Avoid strenuous exercise in hot weather, and follow your doctor’s instructions about how much water to drink. Do not drive after taking Dyrenium until you know you can do so without feeling dizzy or drowsy. Don’t take any other medications that list lightheadedness as a possible side effect.
