Glipizide-Metformin Information:
Glipizide metformin is a combination medication of two oral diabetes medications that work together to control blood sugar levels. It is used in combination with diet and exercise and helps your body use insulin better.
This medication is taken with meals. You should check your blood sugar frequently, and you may need additional blood tests. Drink plenty of liquids while taking glipizide metformin. Have a glucagon emergency kit ready if necessary.
Before taking glipizide metformin, tell your doctor if:
· You have severe kidney disease
· You are in a state of diabetic ketoacidosis
· You have congestive heart failure, especially if you take Lanoxin or Lasix
· You have glucose-6-phostphate dehydrogenase deficiency
· You have liver disease
· You have heart disease
· You are over 80 years old and have not recently had your kidney function checked
Common side effects include upset stomach, nausea, diarrhea, headache, and cold symptoms. Stop taking your medication and get emergency medical attention for the following symptoms: muscle pain or weakness, numb or cold feeling in your arms or legs, trouble breathing, feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or very weak; stomach pain, nausea with vomiting, or slow or uneven heart rate. You should also call your doctor if you experience swelling, rapid weight gain, or shortness of breath.
You should take the missed dose as soon as you remember if you’re taking it with food. Skip the missed dose if it’s almost time for your next dose. Don’t take any extra medication to make up for a missed dose.
You should store glipizide metformin at room temperature away from sources of moisture and heat.
Immediately seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222. An overdose of glipizide metformin can cause life-threatening hypoglycemia, with symptoms such as extreme weakness, confusion, tremors, sweating, fast heart rate, trouble speaking, nausea, vomiting more.

You may develop lactic acidosis and should seek emergency medical treatment if you develop symptoms of this including muscle pain or weakness, numbness, trouble breathing, nausea with vomiting, etc. Talk to your doctor about these dangers.
