Isopto Atropine Information:
What is Isopto Atropine?
Isopto Atropine is a drug for ophthalmic (eye) use that relaxes muscles in and around the eye. Its chief action is to dilate (widen) the pupils, which aids in the treatment of several eye conditions. It can assist patients with eye problems after surgery and those who suffer from inflammatory eye conditions. It can also be used to weaken a strong eye in patients who have amblyopia (lazy eye) so that the brain forces the eye affected by disease to work harder and strengthen naturally.
How do I take Isopto Atropine?
Apply eye drops by tilting your head back and pulling the lower eyelid down to create a pocket in which the liquid can rest. Pull the dropper tip down above your eye and look up and away before squeezing out a drop. Close eyes for two to three minutes without blinking. Seal the eyelids in the corners with your fingers for about 60 seconds. Use only the volume of drops prescribed by your doctor.
Apply ointment by tilting your head back and pulling your lower eyelid down to create a pocket. Point the tip of the Isopto Atropine medicine tube toward the pocket, and direct your eye away from the tip. Squeeze a line of medicine into the pocket without touching the tube to your eye. Close your eye for one to two minutes, and then wipe the excess medicine from your eyelashes with a tissue.
?After applying this medicine, your vision may be temporarily blurred. Do not operate a car or other heavy machinery during this time.
Before taking Isopto Atropine, tell your doctor if:
-
You have high blood pressure
-
You have glaucoma

-
You are pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant
