Lidocaine-Prilocaine Information:
Lidocaine prilocaine cream is a local anesthetic that works by blocking nerves from transmitting painful impulses to your brain. It is prescribed to relieve pain for normal skin and numbing skin to pain from injections and other medical procedures.
Use this medication as directed by your physician. Check the medicine for your dosing instructions. Wash and dry the affected area before treatment. Apply a thick layer of cream to the affected skin, but don’t rub it in. Wash your hands immediately after use.
Before taking lidocaine prilocaine, tell your doctor if:
· You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding
· You are taking any prescription or OTC medications, vitamins, or supplements
· You have any allergies to medicines, foods, etc.
· You have severe liver disease
· You have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency
· You have a perforated ear drum
· You have been sick recently
Common side effects of lidocaine prilocaine include abnormal skin sensations, burning, change in hot or cold sensation, pale skin, or redness and swelling at the application site. Contact your doctor if these become persistent or bothersome or if you suffer a severe allergic reaction to this medication, including rash, hives, itching, or swelling.
You should use the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule. Don’t use two doses on your skin at once.
Store this medication at room temperature in a tightly closed container. It should be kept away from sources of heat, moisture, and light and should not be stored in the bathroom.
If you suspect an overdose, contact emergency care immediately or call the American Association of Poison Control Centers at 1-800-222-1222. Symptoms of a lidocaine prilocaine overdose may include blurred vision, confusion, dizziness, nervousness, seizures, slow heartbeat, and unusual drowsiness. The cream can be dangerous if swallowed.
Warnings
This medication blocks pain and feeling in your skin. Be careful not to injure your treated skin by scratching, rubbing, or exposing the skin to extreme temperatures. Do not swallow the cream. Be careful when using this medication in elderly patients and newborn babies, as they may be more sensitive.

Lidocaine prilocaine cream is a generic formulation, with a brand name version called Emla available.
