Norgestimate-Ethinyl Estradiol Information:
What is norgestimate/ethinyl estradiol?
Norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol are the synthetic forms of the female hormones progestin and estrogen, respectively. These synthetic hormones can be taken orally and absorbed into the body to function in the same way as the natural hormones. Norgestimate/ethinyl estradiol pills are typically used as contraception to prevent pregnancy, but they may also be used for other purposes such as to regulate menstruation, control acne, or to treat endometriosis. Norgestimate ethinyl estradiol pills work by preventing ovulation and thickening cervical mucus.
How do I take norgestimate/ethinyl estradiol?
Norgestimate/ethinyl estradiol pills, also known as birth control pills, are taken orally at the same time every day. Birth control pills can come in a range of doses. Follow instructions provided to you by your pharmacist for your particular product. The typical pack of norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol will consist of 28 pills; 21 of these pills will contain norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol and 7 will not. These 7 are the reminder pills to help keep you on schedule before starting the new pack of pills. Menstruation will take place during these 7 days. There are other varieties that don’t include reminder pills, and some without breaks where you may not have a period for three months. Be sure to read the instructions before starting your birth control.

What if I forget to take a dose of norgestimate/ethinyl estradiol?
