Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo Information:
What is Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo?
Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo is a combination oral contraceptive or birth control pill used to prevent pregnancy. Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo is comprised of two hormones, estrogen and progestin. This medication works by stopping ovulation as well as thickening cervical mucus to prevent the entry of sperm. It also thickens the lining of the uterus to prevent the implantation of a fertilized egg. Otho Tri-Cyclen Lo is also sometimes used to control acne or breakouts and has a lower dose of hormones than many other pills.
How do I take Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo?
Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo may be started on the first day of your period, “Day 1 Start”, or on the first Sunday after your period, “Sunday Start”. If you start your pills on a day other than Sunday, move the dial on the pack so that the correct day of the week is indicated. If you choose the Sunday Start, you will have to use back-up contraception for the first 7 days. If switching from another oral contraceptive, start Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo on the same day you would normally start a new pack of pills. Whatever the start date, take one pill at the same time every day in the order arranged in the pack. Turn the dial on your pack after taking each pill. The first three weeks of pills are active pills, or pills that contain hormones. During the last week of pills, menstruation will begin and the reminder pills will be taken. Keep your pills in a convenient location where you will be sure to remember to taken them at the chosen time every day.
