Synera patches contain lidocaine and tetracaine, both of which are numbing agents. Your doctor may have you use one of these patches to deliver a local anesthetic before certain medical procedures, such as an IV injection or blood draw.

Peel a Synera patch away from the hard plastic backing of its package. Hold the patch by its edges; avoid touching the center area, or you may accidentally numb your fingers.
