Timoptic Ocudose Information:
What is Timoptic Ocudose?
Timoptic Ocudose is an eye drop within the beta-blocker family that mitigates ocular pressure by reducing the amount of fluid in the eye. Pressure builds in patients with open-angle and secondary glaucoma, causing severe discomfort. Timoptic blocks the ciliary epithelium’s beta receptors, causing a reaction that prevents the production of pressure-causing fluid. The Timoptic Ocudose drug can be administered to patients who are sensitive to the preservative benzalkonium chloride, as it contains no such preservatives.
How do I use Timoptic Ocudose?
Use a single drop in each affected eye up to 2 times daily, or as directed by your doctor. Be sure to wash your hands before dropping, and avoid touching the tip of the dropper. Remove contact lenses before use, and wait at least 15 minutes following each medication application before replacing them. Timoptic Ocudose contains no preservatives, so you must use each single-use packet immediately after opening. With your head tilted back, place a single drop in each eye. Look down and close your eyes gently for 2 minutes. Wait at least 10 minutes before applying other ocular medications. Administer drops regularly and at the same time each day to maximize the effect.
Before using Timoptic Ocudose, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to Timolol
- You are allergic to any other medications
- You have a lung disease such as asthma
- You have an irregular heartbeat
- You suffer from heart disease
- You have kidney disease or liver disease
- You suffer from diabetes
- You have low blood flow to the brain
- Your thyroid is overactive
- You regularly experience muscle weakness disorders
- You will be having surgery
- You are pregnant or nursing
What are the possible side effects of using Timoptic Ocudose?
Side effects of the Timoptic Ocudose drug may include: blurred vision, a burning, itching, redness, stinging of the eye, watery or dry eyes, the sensation of an object in the eye, or headache. More rare but serious side effects include: dizziness, pain in the eyes, swelling or discharge, irregular heartbeat, weakness in the muscles, mood swings, or a chilling or numbing sensation in the hands or feet, with or without pain. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience vision changes, extraordinary fatigue, difficulty breathing, sudden weight gain, chest pain, weakness on a single side of the body, slurred speech, confusion, dizziness that does not self-correct, or fainting.
What if I forget to take a dose of Timoptic Ocudose?
If you forget a dose of eye drops, apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If you do not remember before the time of your next dose, use only one dose and skip your missed dose.
How do I store Timoptic Ocudose?
Keep the drops stored at room temperature. Let them remain in the original foil pouch so they do not overheat or evaporate. Use within a month once the foil package has been opened. Do not freeze the drops or store them in the bathroom. Keep away from the reach of children and pets.
What happens if I overdose on Timoptic Ocudose?
If you have swallowed or overdosed on this drug, call a poison control center or hospital right away. Trouble breathing and an irregular heartbeat are possible signs of overdose.
