Varubi Information:
Varubi inhibits receptors in the body that receive chemicals which signal the brain to produce a response of nausea and vomiting. Repeated courses of emetogenic cancer chemotherapy push the body to create such responses when bombarded with substances and radiation intended to kill many of the cells in the body. Varubi helps patients cope with chemotherapy and its side effects.
Take Varubi tablets on Day 1 of chemotherapy treatment with or without food. It works best when taken one to two hours before chemotherapy begins. Follow all instructions provided by your doctor. Do not take this medication more than one time within 14 days. It will be administered in combination with additional nausea and vomiting preventive drugs.
Before taking Varubi, tell your doctor if:
- You are currently taking pimozide (Orap)
- You are being treated with thioridazine (Mellaril)
- You have liver disease
- You have allergies to food, medicine, or other substances
Varubi affects natural processes in the body and therefore may come with common side effects such as dizziness, indigestion, stomach pain, hiccups, mouth sores, loss of appetite, or low blood cell counts. Seek help from a medical professional immediately if you notice a headache with chest pain and severe dizziness, fainting, pain or burning when you urinate, fast or pounding heartbeats, low red blood cell count, or low white blood cell count.
Take the dose you missed as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is time or nearly time for your next scheduled dose. Never take more than a single dose of medicine at one time.
Store this medicine at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Exposure to moisture or heat could cause the medicine to lose its effect.
Upon overdose, you may experience some of the severe side effects associated with use of the drug Varubi. Seek emergency medical attention or call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.
Varubi is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old. It must be used in combination with other drugs to create a noticeable effect. Overuse of Varubi, including more than a single use in a 14-day period, could cause unwanted and severe side effects.
