Nuvessa Information:
What is Nuvessa?
Nuvessa is a topical gel that is applied directly to the vagina to treat bacterial vaginosis. The active ingredient in Nuvessa is metronidazole, which works by entering bacterial and protozoal cells to prevent the spread of the infection. Use Nuvessa as directed by your doctor to prevent unwanted side effects.
How do I take Nuvessa?
Remove the Nuvessa prefilled applicator from the packet and pull the pink cap off the tip of the applicator. Lie in a comfortable position and insert the prefilled injector into your vagina as far as possible, and then press the plunger to release the gel until it’s completely gone.
Before taking Nuvessa, tell your doctor if:
- You are pregnant or plan to become pregnant
- You are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed
- You are currently taking any other medications, including supplements and vitamins
- You have any food or drug allergies
What are the possible side effects of taking Nuvessa?
You may experience the following side effect while using Nuvessa: yeast infections, headaches, vaginal itching, nausea, diarrhea, and pain during the menstrual cycle. You should report unusual side effects to your doctor right away to prevent serious health complications.
What if I forget to take a dose of Nuvessa?
Nuvessa is a single dose medication, so missed doses do not apply. Take Nuvessa exactly as directed by your doctor to achieve the maximum benefits of the medication.
How do I store Nuvessa?
Store Nuvessa in a room with a temperature around 68 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Do not freeze or place Nuvessa near extreme heat or excessive moisture. Lock away Nuvessa in a safe place out of reach of small children.
What happens if I overdose on Nuvessa?
Overdoses of Nuvessa are rare, but if you experience hives or difficulty breathing, you may be having an allergic reaction the medication. Contact local health emergency services at 911 or Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 in case of an overdose or allergic reaction to Nuvessa.
