Moviprep Information:
What is Moviprep?
Moviprep is an osmotic laxative, meaning that it draws water into the colon in order to induce bowel movements and flush out stools. Moviprep is made from a combination of polyethylene glycol and electrolytes. It may be prescribed to treat constipation or prescribed to be taken before a procedure such as a colonoscopy to allow doctors to better examine the intestines.
How do I take Moviprep?
Moviprep comes in a kit with two one-liter doses. Take the first dose at the time designated by your doctor, usually the night before an exam. To take the first dose, mix the contents of pouch A and pouch B into the one-liter container provided. Then fill the container to the top line with room temperature water. Mix the solution until it has dissolved. You may store the solution in the refrigerator before it is time to take your dose so that it may become cold. You must drink the solution within 24 hours of mixing it. When it is time to drink your dose, only drive ¼ of the mixture every 15 minutes. There are lines on the liter container marking each quarter. You should finish the solution in one hour. After finishing your dose, drink at least 16 ounces of a clear liquid that does not contain milk or particles. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for a list of approved liquids. You must do this to stay hydrated. Repeat all of the above steps for your second dose at the time designated by your doctor. You should begin having bowel movements one hour after your first dose. Ask your doctor what to do if you need to take other medications after your first dose of Moviprep. They may not be absorbed into your system.
Before taking Moviprep, tell your doctor if:
