Suprep Bowel Prep Information:
What is Suprep Bowel Prep?
Suprep Bowel Prep is a prescription laxative. It comes as a liquid solution, and it works by causing you to retain water in your stool and have more frequent bowel movements. It is primarily used to cleanse the colon before a colonoscopy.
How do I take Suprep Bowel Prep?
Suprep Bowel Prep comes in two 6-ounce doses (each in their own bottle). You should take the first dose the evening before your colonoscopy and the second dose the morning of your colonoscopy. Be sure to mix the medication with the amount of water specified in the accompanying Instructions for Use. Do not eat any solid foods from the time you start using Suprep Bowel Prep until after your procedure. If you have more questions about how to use this drug, contact your doctor.
Before taking Suprep Bowel Prep, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to this or any other medications
- You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription medications or supplements, especially other laxatives and blood pressure drugs
- You have any stomach or bowel problems (such as a blockage or perforation)
- You have any heart problems
- You have abnormal blood electrolyte levels
- You have a history of seizures
- You have a history of kidney problems
- You have difficulty swallowing
- You are on a low-sodium diet or become dehydrated easily
- You have an alcohol dependence problem or are having alcohol withdrawal symptoms
What are the possible side effects of taking Suprep Bowel Prep?
Some of the most common side effects of Suprep Bowel Prep include nausea, mild stomach pain, and feeling bloated. These side effects are typically not long-lasting, but you should inform your doctor if any of your side effects persist. Get emergency medical help in the rare case that you experience any of the following serious side effects: an irregular heartbeat, severe nausea or vomiting, decreased urination, severe stomach pain or bloating, dizziness, weakness, fainting, or seizures.
What if I forget to take a dose of Suprep Bowel Prep?
It is very important that you take your two doses of Suprep Bowel Prep as prescribed. The second dose should be taken at least two hours before your colonoscopy, unless your doctor has given you different instructions. If you do forget a dose, or if you are unable to take the second dose due to side effects caused by the first, call your doctor immediately.
How do I store Suprep Bowel Prep?
Keep Suprep Bowel Prep at room temperature, away from light and moisture and out of reach of children and pets. You should not have any leftover medication after you take your two doses.
What happens if I overdose on Suprep Bowel Prep?
Because you will only receive two doses of Suprep Bowel Prep, it is unlikely that you will overdose. However, if you believe that you or someone in your household has overdosed, contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222. Go to the nearest emergency room if you or your loved one is experiencing severe side effects.
Warnings
You should only drink clear liquids the day before and the day of your colonoscopy. However, it is a good idea to drink extra fluids before and after taking Suprep Bowel Prep in order to avoid becoming dehydrated. Acceptable liquids include water, strained fruit juices without pulp, coffee or tea without creamer, and chicken broth. Do not use any other laxatives while using Suprep Bowel Prep. If you need to take any other medications during this time, consult your doctor. Certain medicines may not be as effective if taken with an hour of a Suprep Bowel Prep dose.
